Acceptable Use Policy
HeroComic AI draws real people's faces. That makes what you may upload, and what you may make with it, the most important thing on this site.
Last updated 12 August 2026
1. Whose face you may upload
You may upload a photograph of yourself, or of another adult who has given you permission to use their likeness for this purpose. Before every upload you are asked to confirm exactly that:
“This is a photo of me, or of someone who has given me permission to use their likeness. They are over 18.”
That confirmation is recorded against the upload with the date and the version of this policy in force at the time. We cannot verify consent — nobody can, from a photograph — so the responsibility for having it is yours, and the record is how we identify who accepted it.
2. What you must not upload
- A photograph of anyone under 18, in any circumstances, including yourself.
- A photograph of a public figure, celebrity, politician or other well-known person who has not personally given you permission. Being able to find a photograph is not permission.
- A photograph of someone who has asked you not to, or who has withdrawn permission.
- An image you do not have the rights to use, including stock photography, press photographs and images taken from social media without the subject’s agreement.
- Anything that is not a photograph of a real person’s face — including images of documents, identification, or explicit material.
3. What you must not create
The story you pick, and any story you write yourself on the Max plan, must not be used to produce:
- Sexual or intimate imagery of any person, or material that sexualises a minor.
- Harassment, bullying, threats or degradation aimed at a real person.
- Defamatory or fabricated depictions — showing a real person committing a crime, endorsing something, or taking part in events that did not happen, presented as though they did.
- Impersonation, or anything intended to deceive people into believing a real person said or did something.
- Content promoting hatred or violence against a group, or glorifying real-world violence, terrorism or self-harm.
- Anything unlawful where you are, or where the person in the photograph is.
4. How this is enforced
Enforcement is layered, and no layer is claimed to be perfect:
- Consent is required and recorded at every upload, as described above.
- The image model applies safety filters to every page. Content that trips them is refused before it is drawn, and the credit is returned automatically — we do not charge for a page that was blocked.
- Stories written by users are screened before any image is generated. A premise that breaches this policy is rejected at that point, not after.
- Reports are acted on. See below.
- Nothing is stored for long. Uploaded photographs are deleted within 48 hours. Comics are deleted 7 days after they are made, or 24 hours after they are downloaded — whichever comes first.
Generated comics are private to the account that made them. Nothing is published, listed or shared by us.
5. Reporting a comic or a photograph
If you believe your likeness has been used without your permission, or that something on this service breaches this policy, email iterate.startup@gmail.com.
Tell us what you can — a description of the image, the email address of the account if you know it, and how to reach you. You do not need an account to make a report.
We respond within 72 hours. Where a report is credible we remove the material and, where the likeness is yours, we will confirm to you once it is gone.
6. Consequences
Breaching this policy can mean the removal of individual comics, suspension, or permanent closure of an account. Serious cases — particularly anything involving a minor — are reported to the appropriate authorities.
Closure for a breach of this policy does not entitle you to a refund of unused credits.
